6 SWAC Stars on Preseason All-American 1st Team

Twenty players from the SWAC earned spots on the Consensus Draft Services preseason All-American teams.

Six SWAC stars – including 2009 defensive player of the year Christian Anthony of Grambling State – earned 1st team honors. Jackson State defensive back Anthony Johnson led three SWAC players on the second team, and Prairie View’s running back Donald Babers was among 11 conference representatives named honorable mention.

Grambling’s Eighth President is Frank G. Pogue

The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System unanimously voted to appoint Frank G. Pogue Grambling State University’s eighth president. UL System President Randy Moffett presented Pogue to the Board as the Grambling Presidential Search Committee’s recommendation. Continue reading

Southern Legend takes New Jersey Nets Coaching job

Former Southern University star Avery Johnson has been named the new head coach of the NBA’s New Jersey Nets.

Johnson spent the last two years as a studio analyst for ESPN/ABC after serving as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks for the previous 3 ½ seasons. Johnson developed the Mavericks into perennial contenders, leading them all the way to the NBA finals for the first time in franchise history. Continue reading
