2010 SIAC Football Preseason Picks and Predicitions

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Preseason All-SIAC Football Teams and predicted order of finish as selected by the SIAC Football Coaches Association.

The 2010 preseason team features 21 returning players from the 2009 All-SIAC team led by Clark Atlanta running back Winston Thompson and Benedict quarterback Pat Riley. Continue reading

2010 MEAC Football Preseason Picks and Predictions

South Carolina State’s Malcolm Long and Julio Sanchez of Hampton earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) top football preseason awards, as announced by the conference on Friday afternoon at the Norfolk Marriott Hotel.  Long was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Sanchez was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the MEAC head football coaches and sports information directors. Former JSU golfer Shasta Averyhardt misses cut at U.S. Women’s Open

Shasta Averyhardt is headed home after two rounds at the U.S. Women’s Open.  The professional golfer and former Jackson State University student, missed the cut in her first major championship, shooting 26-over-par 85-83—168 at Oakmont Country Club. That left Averyhardt in 153rd place. Continue reading

It’s Official: NCCU & Savannah State Return to the MEAC

During a press conference on Sept. 10, 2009, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced that North Carolina Central University would join the conference as its 13th member. And while MEAC officials along with NCCU staff, coaches, student-athletes and fans celebrated the milestone, it did not become effective until Thursday (July 1). Continue reading

Bowie State Students Complete NASA Mission Control Certifications

Two Bowie State University students,  Kevin Gross and Shawn Mathews, recently completed certifications in the Bowie Satellite Operations and Control Center (BSOCC). The BSOCC is the only one of its kind in the nation that is operated by undergraduate and graduate students. The Center is a joint venture between Bowie State, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and Honeywell Technology Solutions, Inc. Continue reading
