House passes health care reform in historic vote

After a year’s worth of debates, delays, and parliamentary maneuvering, the House of Representatives approved historic legislation to revamp the nation’s health care system this evening.

By an 219 to 212 margin, the measure narrowly cleared after a day of debate that featured impassioned protests from Republican opponents on grounds of fiscal excess and expanded government power – and just-as-emphatic support from Democrats citing the moral imperative to help those suffering under the current system.
