2010 MEAC Football Preseason Picks and Predictions
South Carolina State’s Malcolm Long and Julio Sanchez of Hampton earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) top football preseason awards, as announced by the conference on Friday afternoon at the Norfolk Marriott Hotel. Long was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Sanchez was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the MEAC head football coaches and sports information directors. Players Sue Savannah St. for Reverse Discrimination
Four white football players are suing Savannah State University, saying the historically-black school discriminated against them by withdrawing scholarship offers made by a former coach.
School officials fired the coach, who is also white, this year. The players say, once that happened, their scholarships were taken away. Although, it is not unusual for schools to reverse offers when coaches leave, but this one, the players contend, was race-based. Continue reading
