First Lady Michelle Obama to give UAPB Commencement Speech

First lady Michelle Obama plans to make three commencement addresses this spring — assuming one of the selected schools meets her public service challenge.

If students, faculty and staff at George Washington University complete 100,000 hours of community service — as requested by Obama — she will deliver graduation remarks May 16, according to the first lady’s office.

Obama will address graduating students at Anacostia Senior High School in Washington on June 11, according to the schedule. She visited the school in the spring of 2009.

The first lady’s commencement schedule opens May 8, when she speaks at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. It is the oldest historically black college in the state of Arkansas.

Last year, the first lady spoke to the first full senior class at the University of California-Merced. She also addressed the Washington Math and Science Tech Public Charter High School graduation.

President Obama has commencement appearances at the University of Michigan, Hampton University in Virginia and a yet-to-be-determined high school.
